August 01, 2025

In a rare and meaningful blend of public service and cultural celebration, Negros Occidental Third District Representative Javier Miguel Benitez took to the runway for TelaHISTORIA, an iconic fashion and heritage event that spotlights the richness of Filipino textiles and traditional craftsmanship at the Newport Performing Arts Theatre, August 1. Wearing an intricately handcrafted Llamanzares Barong made of cocoon silk, Rep. Javi proudly joined a roster of advocates, artists, and leaders who walked for a cause to honor and uplift the Philippine weaving and textile industry. “It was such an honor to walk the runway for TelaHISTORIA,” he shared on his social media post. “I’m grateful to have been part of such a meaningful event celebrating Philippine artistry, textiles, and fabric. Let us continue to support the industry that weaves our rich Philippine culture into every thread of our national identity and history.” TelaHISTORIA is a flagship initiative that bridges tradition and innovation by showcasing locally woven fabrics, indigenous design, and sustainable fashion. The event brings together designers, artisans, and cultural champions to promote Filipino craftsmanship and generate awareness for the livelihoods and legacies embedded in local weaving communities. Furthermore, Rep. Javi has been a vocal supporter of the creative and cultural industries, recently being appointed as Chairman of the Special Committee on Creative Industries in the 20th Congress. His participation in TelaHISTORIA reinforces his commitment to legislation and initiatives that protect and elevate the country's cultural assets. *
