Rep. Javi Benitez to Host Public Consultation as Sugar Prices Plunge in Negros Occidental
January 22, 2026

Negros Occidental Third District Representative Javier Miguel Benitez will host a Public Consultation on the Significant Decline in Millgate Sugar Prices at the Padre Pio Hall of Nature’s Village Resort, as concerns mount over its impact on the Province’s sugar industry today, January 23. The consultation will be led by Senate Committee on Agriculture, Food, and Agrarian Reform Chair Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan and House Committee on Agriculture and Food Chair Rep. Wilfrido Mark Enverga, and will be hosted by the Office of the Third District Representative of Negros Occidental. Convened pursuant to House Resolution No. 373, authored by Rep. Benitez, the consultation calls for an inquiry, in aid of legislation, into the continued drop in millgate sugar prices in Negros Occidental. The measure seeks to review existing policies and identify legislative and administrative actions to help stabilize sugar prices and protect the welfare of sugar producers, workers, and rural communities. Furthermore, the consultation aims to provide affected stakeholders with a platform to raise their concerns and help shape responsive policy solutions tailored to the local conditions. Stakeholders from the sugar industry are expected to participate in the discussion and share their recommendations. *
