Roads and Bridges to Drive Murcia’s Economic and Agricultural Growth
February 12, 2026

Prioritizing connectivity as the backbone of economic and agricultural expansion, Negros Occidental Third District Representative Javier Miguel Benitez unveiled a major 2026 development roadmap for Murcia during the Municipal Development Council meeting. The national government-funded plan targets comprehensive upgrades across infrastructure, healthcare, and agriculture to strengthen Murcia’s economic capacity and quality of life. At the heart of the roadmap are road, bridge, and drainage improvements, including asset preservation for primary routes like the Bacolod-Murcia-DS Benedicto-San Carlos City Road and tertiary roads such as the Jct Murcia-Cansilayan-Damsite-Abuanan-Bago City Road. Projects include restoring paved roads, converting unpaved roads to concrete, and installing safety features like streetlights and guardrails to protect commuters. Key bridge projects include the construction of a new concrete bridge along the Murcia Bypass Road in Barangay Blumentritt and the rehabilitation of major bridges such as Langub, Sum-ag, and Tuburan, ensuring continuous connectivity throughout the municipality. Agricultural productivity is supported by farm-to-market road concreting in Barangays Talotog, Lopez Jaena, and Minoyan, directly linking rural producers to local and regional markets. Infrastructure investments extend to nine multi-purpose buildings across barangays, including a Learning Center in Barangay Caliban and an indigenous multi-purpose center in Barangay Minoyan. These facilities will serve as community hubs for education, gatherings, and disaster evacuation. Healthcare is a central component of the 2026 roadmap, with Murcia Super Health Center set to receive infrastructure upgrades and new equipment, complemented by medical equipment support for the Murcia Rural Health Unit. The Office of Rep. Benitez continues to deliver direct social support through AKAP and AICS programs, providing financial assistance to thousands of Murciahanons. To expand healthcare access and strengthen community preparedness, Rep. Benitez will launch the Mobile Medical Services Program, which will bring blood chemistry tests, X-rays, and ECG screenings directly to all barangays. In addition, 20-liter waterproof emergency Go Bags containing essential first aid and life-saving supplies will be distributed to help families respond effectively to calamities. This integrated approach combines high-value infrastructure with immediate social programs, positioning road and bridge connectivity as the driving force behind Murcia’s economic and agricultural growth while improving access to essential services for all residents.*
