With the upcoming Negros Occidental Convention Center positioned as a flagship economic catalyst, Negros Occidental Third District Representative Javier Miguel Benitez announced major national government-funded investments for Silay City in 2026, centering on big-ticket infrastructure and expanded social services. Rep. Benitez presented a comprehensive development plan spanning road networks, health facilities, and strategic public buildings aimed at strengthening Silay’s role as a regional hub for trade, tourism, and public services during the Silay City Development Council meeting held last week. At the core of the infrastructure push is significant funding from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), including major road works such as the Bacolod Negros Occidental Economic Highway (BANOCEH) and improvements to the Silay-Lantawan Road. Silay City is set to host the Negros Occidental Convention Center, envisioned as a premier regional venue for large-scale conferences and trade shows, a project expected to stimulate local enterprise, tourism, and investment activity. Disaster resilience and public safety are also prioritized, with funding for road safety lighting and the construction of an evacuation center in Barangay Mambulac. Other key projects include a multi-purpose building in Barangay Guinhalaran and a facility for the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group. Agricultural connectivity will be strengthened through a farm-to-market road concreting project in Barangay Bagtic. Beyond infrastructure, the 2026 agenda integrates health and education investments, including the establishment of the Silay City Super Health Center and the restoration of heritage school buildings. Furthermore, the Office of Rep. Benitez continues to deliver direct assistance through AKAP and AICS programs, providing medical, educational, and burial support. Healthcare access will further expand through the Mobile Medical Services Program, offering blood chemistry tests, X-rays, and ECG screenings across all barangays. Community preparedness will also be reinforced through the distribution of 20-liter waterproof emergency Go Bags containing essential first aid and life-saving supplies. Rep. Benitez emphasized that these projects are designed not only to deliver immediate improvements but to position Silay City as a stronger economic and civic center for the years ahead.*
