Victorias City Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez has joined the Philippine Army as a reservist today, July 12. The City Mayor was officially pinned as a Philippine Army reservist during the 38th Founding Anniversary of the 3rd Infantry Division 303rd Infantry (Brown Eagle) Brigade held at Camp Major Nelson L. Gerona, Barangay Minoyan, Murcia. 3rd Infantry Division Commander Major General Marion Sison welcomed Mayor Javi and the other new members of the Army Reserve Command namely, Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, Central Philippines State University Kabankalan City President Aladino Moraca, and Vice President for Academic Affairs Fernando Abello. As a reservist, Mayor Javi will undergo Basic Military Training and Active Duty Training. Section 3, Article II of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Reservist Act of 1991 says, “The Citizen Armed Force shall be provided maximum opportunity to participate in safeguarding the security of the State and in assisting in socioeconomic development.” Furthermore, reservists are bestowed with the mission to provide the base for the expansion of the AFP in times of invasion, rebellion, or war. They will also assist in relief and rescue during disasters or calamities, socioeconomic development, and operation and maintenance of essential government or private utilities.
